One application for everything you run.

Aviary is where applications are found, installed, kept up to date, fixed and built, with you in charge at every step. You own the apps and you own the data.

What it does

Built around ownership.

These are the capabilities Aviary is being built to provide. The status table below says what exists today.

Find what already exists

Search for applications that meet your need. Existing verified apps are offered first, so nobody rebuilds what is already built.

Your versions, your choice

Every application keeps an immutable version history. Pick Latest, Stable, the version you first installed, or pin another. Updates are opt-in.

Nothing is taken back

Each release you install stays until you delete it. A vulnerable version asks you to confirm before it runs. It is never removed from your machine remotely.

Launchers that work offline

Each app gets its own launcher that verifies signed releases, keeps older versions for rollback and starts without a connection.

Local-first by default

Apps, versions, your data and your launch decisions stay on your device unless a feature genuinely needs a service, and a service never silently replaces them.

Plugins with clear limits

Plugins declare what they can do and what they depend on. Installing one does not quietly give it access to your other data.

Ask, vote, report

Request features, vote on what matters and report problems. Reports are private by default.

Fixes reach you first

When a problem is fixed, the person who reported it can try the fix before it goes to everyone, then approve it or send it back.

Back up and move

Portable backups and device-to-device moves, including offline installs, so changing machine never means starting again.

Questions

Can I download Aviary today?

Not publicly. A small group of invited testers is using a Linux development preview. Join the waitlist and we'll email you when the next group opens.

What does it cost?

We haven't published pricing for Aviary and won't guess here. Joining the waitlist is free and commits you to nothing.

What happens to my data?

The design is local-first: your applications and their data live on your device. Applications that need a service say so, and you choose whether to use it.

Is Aviary one of the example apps?

No. Aviary is the application that installs and maintains the others. Raven, Sparrow, Plover and Dove are examples of apps that can live inside it.

Who is behind this?

Aviary Technologies Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. See the About page for the details.
